Knipescar Common is part of the high land east of the River Lowther, above Bampton. The limestone gives rise to lovely grass and flowers with areas of pavement. We saw a hare here. The summit crag gives a grandstand viewing point in many directions, especially across to the High Street range.
Just a few meters NW of the cache is the perfect natural bench on which to sit and enjoy the view: N54° 33.921 W002° 44.049. Locating the cache will need a little search in gap between two rocks, and slightly under N one.
You can approach the cache from either the A6 to the east, or Bampton Grange to the west. Walking SE along the edge will bring you to the other Knipe Scar cache - Haweswater View. Pick a good day for the best views. For the route from the A6, see the other cache.
West Route Option
Find your way to Bampton Grange. Parking can be found on the minor, unfenced road over Knipe Moor, immediately below the cache. Paths lead up through the lower slopes (with bracken) onto the grassy top.
Other good paths exist in the area and circular walks can be devised. Refreshment can be found in the villages below, which offer a couple of pubs and a tea shop.
