I
met my wife while stationed in Korea during my service in the
Army. The Army moved me, my wife, and my daughter,
(unwillingly) to Fort Campbell in January of 2007. I got out
of the Army, and we moved to New York in January of 2008.
Since my wife is the only daughter of her parents, and our daughter
is their only grandchild, her parents have decided to move to San
Francisco (My wife has three uncles that live there). Since
everyone in her family has relocated to my home country, it only
seems fair and logical to let her choose the state. So since
my lease agreement for my apartment ends at the end of July, its
now or never. My wife and daughter are already there..., so I
will be driving alone, and possibly caching along the
way. |

This event is
more of aflash
mob.
The sole purpose is to grab the attention of everyone in the area
and hope that they might want to adopt my cache's and drop off any
bugs they have in need of a ride west.
I will have a
milk crate and a log book. Drop your bug in the crate, and if
you want to exchange snail mail addresses I will mail you trackable
bugs I find out west that have a mission to go east. Then
once I get an address I will e-mail to those who want it and you
can do just the opposite.
I don't know the
exact date which I will leave NY, but our wedding anniversary is
July 26th so I am trying to be there before that
date.
The cache's in
this park will be maintained by myself during visits, and my family
while I am gone due to there significance. All other caches
will be available to be adopted. I also have 9 cache's that are
hid, and I haven't gotten around to creating the puzzle or other
details for them. Those who want to claim them for their own
hide, I will give that information to those seriously interested, I
won't share the coordinates with the group so the new owner can set
their own regulations for the find. (Some are in Syracuse,
some in Marathon, and some in Ithaca..., I get
around).
Look for my car
(TB21P8R
). Its a black
Chevy Cobalt, I will
be there at 2pm and stay long enough to say my goodbyes and
collect the bugs.
Only drop bugs and coins heading west in the
crate.
If you want to
trade, then you are free too trade with other cachers I just won't
have anything setup for that. This is going to be quick and
informal, and I am not entirely sure what else I will have going
during this time, but with moving I am sure I will be
busy.

2PM at the
posted coordinates
Bring travel bugs & geocoins that have a mission to head west,
or to gain as many miles as possible.
(I am looking to log about 2,500 miles "as a crow
flies") |
I grew up in
Marathon, lived in Cortland County the first 20 years of my
life. I am now 30 and finally back home, which feels really
good. I've made some new friends, and had some fun.
Learned a lot of new things about the place I grew up in because of
Geocaching. Now I am sad to say, it's time to move on.
Thank you everyone for the hides. I got hooked on Geocaching
cause of you all here in the Syracuse area. I hope to stay in
touch.
P.S. Cache
density for a 100 mile range, in Syracuse is 4,993, and San
Francisco is 14,615 as of this writing. Sounds like fun!
(Calculated using the two zip codes, 13201 &
94101)
I will be
blogging along the way, anything to keep my sanity while being
locked in a car for almost a week. You can read the blog at
http://adium.razornylon.com/ or
just watch the travel bug (TB21P8R)
I will be driving it there which will be logged into every cache I
stop at along the way.
Ironically
enough I unintentionally found the travel bug below here in
Syracuse. On top of it wanting to go to San Francisco, its
named "I left my heart...". I will be escorting this bug
first class back to San Francisco.
Wish me luck, I hope to
see you all again after the event. Take care! Have
Fun! Cache on!
Update: (3 July 2008)
I will be travelling along Interstate 90, then switch to Interstate
80 in Ohio which will take me the rest of the way there.
I will pass through the following
states:
- California (186.5mi)
- Illinois (163.2mi)
- Indiana (151.9mi)
- Iowa (305.8mi)
- Nebraska (454.7mi)
- Nevada (410.7mi)
- New York (219.6mi)
- Ohio (243.4mi)
- Pennsylvania (46.3mi)
- Utah (193.5mi)
- Wyoming (402.1mi)
I would like to stop at least once in
each state to grab a cache so I can highlight my map along the way
cause I don't know if I will ever do this again. Some of
these states I don't ever see me visiting for personal reasons ever
again either.
I am debating about grabbing the owl's
nest. I would like to grab my brother's purple heart coin,
but honestly this tree scares the crap out of me. I don't
want anyone signing the log that didn't climb the tree
either. I am debating bringing my equipment if anyone wants
to try, but don't want to be responsible for anyone either.
Although once I could control my emotions and talk to the 911
operator calmly it only took a couple minutes for the paramedics to
arrive, I don't want to relive that experience. I am also
looking at leaving about a week after the event so I am sure I will
be busy too. I don't see this happening, even though I would
like to.
