Come celebrate this historic day with
fellow geocachers. There will be other geocaching events like this
all around the world.
The event will last EXACTLY 8
minutes, not one second longer.
It will begin precisely at 8:08 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 08,
2008...080808. It will be held in the outdoor eating area of Dairy
Queen in Cromwell, CT. A minute by minute time line is posted
below.
***THE
PLAN***
At exactly 8:08 p.m. (as determined by the GPS clock) we will
place an empty swag/coin/travel bug trading bucket at the
posted coordinates. We will then blow a whistle. At this
point, all geocachers will converge, seeming to come out of
"nowhere."
A volunteer will hand out "log sheets" and raffle entries (same
sheet). Participants will sign the log sheets (which will later
become a log book needed to qualify for attendance). The log sheets
need to be dropped into a designated collection box no later than
8:12 p.m. Bring your own pen. Participants may trade swag, coins
and travel bugs via the trading bucket at any time. If any muggles
are curious about the event we will have a volunteer hand out
fliers that explains geocaching.
We will be having a raffle, so please feel free to donate
something.
8:08
p.m. - Gather at the event site
and fill out the log/raffle sheets and start trading swag, coins
and travel bugs
8:09 p.m. - Eat Strawberry Twizzlers for the event
"meal"
8:10 p.m. - Group photo - organize quick with as many of us
as possible
8:12 p.m. - Gather the log/raffle sheets and have raffle
drawing
8:15
p.m. - CITO the area and prepare to vacate
At precisely 8:16 p.m., the
trading bucket and log sheets will be packed up and sealed away.
The whistle will blow again, signaling the end of the event. The
area will be vacated without a trace!!! Anything that happens after
8:16:01 does not count as part of THIS event.
Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may
log the event.
Tell your friends and help promote the event!
Suggestion: Come early and enjoy some ice cream on a warm summer
night and be prepared for the 8:08 p.m.
start time. There is plenty of time to have a nice dinner after
work and still make it to the event.
Note: Although participants are welcome to get together before
or after the event, the event will officially be over at 8:16:01
p.m.
I'm sure there will be several muggles nearby who will wonder
"What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the
fun!)
***HELP
WANTED*** I need a few volunteers to help pull this off
and donate some raffle prizes. We also need a photographer to take
the group photo. A non-cacher would be ideal so all cachers can be
in the picture. If you are interested in helping, please let me
know. Thanks!
