Geocache Description:

This cache gives value-for-money, in that there are a total of three quite different views from the bank near the cache site.

ALL CACHERS PLEASE NOTE! To return the log to the magnetic nano cache roll it up and place it into the *top* of the nano cache. Then screw the magnetic bottom on to the top, fully so that the rubber ring seals the two halves.
If the log is put into the bottom first the top will not screw on....

Why value-for-money? Firstly there is a golf course, then a school playing fields and lastly an area of world famous wildlife interest!

The golf course is the first golf club to be opened in Southport - in 1885 - that of the Hesketh Golf Club. Here, the qualifying competitions are held whenever The Open is at Royal Birkdale. As can be seen, it is a mixture of parkland and links which makes it infamous for another reason, for it is here on this course that there is the most northerly naturally-occurring population of the Sand Lizard in the UK.

The playing fields are that of Stanley High School Specialist Sports College, which attains a high standard in both sports and across the whole school. Perhaps you can see some of the 11-16 year olds enjoying their sports....

Finally, the land between the bank and the seashore is of worldwide scientific interest, harboring not only all sorts of wildlife including Llamas, but birds such as Peregrine, Merlin and Plover, short-eared Owl and several types of birds of prey throughout the year. Bring your bins, especially at high tide!

The cache
An extremely small magnetic nano cache.

The size of the cache is that of the end of a little finger - see photo below. It has a small rolled up log book inside - you'll need both a writing implement and possibly something sharp to tease the log book out. When signing the log you can condense your alias to save space.

Please be careful when taking the cache off the structure - if dropped it will not be found!

Extricating and returning the rolled-up log
A sharp instrument may be needed to tease the log out. To return the log to the magnetic nano cache roll it up and place it into the top of the nano cache. Then screw the magnetic bottom on fully so that the rubber ring seals the two halves. If the log is put into the bottom first the top will not screw on. Then please ensure that the cache is replaced in exactly the same position. Ta!

The magnetic nano cache is extremely small - much smaller than it
looks in the photo. Here it's compared to a one pence coin.
To be forewarned have a look at a one pence coin and consider
the size of the cache

Then why not wander to the bank, let the eyes relax and behold the vista all around.

Further information - this area is known as a sea cop
A sea cop is an area where the land doesn't take in water easily, so any prolonged rain makes the fields into a lake. It is easy to understand why as a gradual process of land reclamation has been under way since the very early days using embankments and what is called sea cops. This has reclaimed a substantial amount of land over time, and some years ago a wharf was discovered below the entrance gates to Meols Hall - this is close to the main gate of the Botanic Gardens, some two miles inland! And as further cops were built over the years they gradually moved the sea farther and farther back. However, because the sea had a large amount of silt as a sea bed it now does not soak in rain readily.
