Located on a steep bank above the River Dee within the western outskirts of Aboyne. A walk on riverside paths and tarred road, or a shorter walk on woodland paths.
This cache was placed near a spot where our beagle Bonnie always waited for a biscuit and where we stopped to admire the view up the Dee valley towards Ballater and beyond. The old dog gave up at just over 15 years mid 2007 but this spot is still a 'Bonnie View'
The cache is a small lock and lock box containing a logbook and pen,FTF bonus and one or two small swaps.
Either:- park near the Boat Inn (somewhere to refresh later?) and follow the marked path which starts on the other side of the road. Follow this route along the river then through a wood and up a metalled road until the signs would have you turn right into another wood. At this point go through a gap in the fence on the left side of the road and follow a path which will take you to the riverbank. Your GPS should start working here so follow that arrow, not far to go. As you walk towards the cache you will first come to the viewpoint, an open area between a rotten trunk and a stump, enjoy that view then find the box.
Or:- find a parking space at the western end of Barclay Park (please do not park on the soft verges of Rhu-na-haven Road) and walk to the gap in the fence just round the corner on Rhu-na-haven Road.
To return to the Boat Inn retrace your steps down Rhu-na haven Road and at the 90 degree bend either go back via the river or keep on the road eventually turning right at a crossroads.
Permission to place this cache was given by the Dinnet and Kinord Estate, my thanks for their help.
