The Lilac Garden Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

F Troopers: After 10 years and 265 finds, it is time to let this one go. It had a good run, but because of both life changes and changes to the area containing the hide, I can no longer maintain this to the standard that I feel it deserves. To all who sought it and found it over the years, you will always have my gratitude. Thank you. And to my dear, departed friend clupea, who was the first finder and my confederate in many caching adventures in those early years, peace to you always.

Geocache Description:

Come take a stroll in the Lilac Garden at Duniway Park. Cache contains only a rolled up write-in-the-rain log sheet -- you'll need to bring your own writing implement.

Duniway Park is named for Abigail Scott Duniway, a writer, publisher, advocate for women's voting rights, and the first legal female voter in Multnomah County. The first-of-its-kind running track in the park was made in 1995 from recycled rubber, including the soles of athletic shoes donated by Nike.

The Lilac Garden, comprising about 225 plants and more than 125 varieties, was created over what was once Marquam Gulch. The Portland Garden Club donated the original lilac plants for the garden after purchasing them from the estate of nurseryman B.O. Case. This is a pleasant and beautiful spot near the bustle of downtown -- please treat it and its flora gently while searching.

There is no public parking next to the Lilac Garden, but parking can be found within an easy walk. The waypoint below is for my favorite nearby parking spot.

A special thank you to the SuperDiggers for providing the container for this cache as an FTF gift from their fine multi "Albert Kelly’s Kache" (GC1CMC4), which I highly recommend. Please replace it exactly as you found it so that it cannot be seen.
