This cache is at the Lou Holtz/Upper Ohio Valley Hall of Fame
Building in East Liverpool OH
In 1996 Lou Holtz, legendary football coach and East Liverpool
native, was approached about a museum that would celebrate his
achievements. He declined stating he did not want a shrine to
himself or a monument to the past. He finally agreed when the idea
was expanded to include the “hall of fame” concept. Today, four to
six residents or natives of the Upper Ohio Valley are recognized
and inducted into the Hall of Fame each year. Inductees are those
who have excelled in their fields of endeavor and have served as
inspiration for the young people of the region. Some of the more
notable people have been Jerome Bettis, Robert Urich, Regis
Philbin; Dean Martin and Clark Gable posthumously. Amongst the many
local inductees are; Joan Witt, Hans Hacker, Nick Trombetta, Rose
Angelica, John C. Thompson, and Frank Dawson. Coach Holtz provides
funding each year for trade school scholarships to local students
so they might make positive improvements to their lives. The Hall
of Fame also provides a grant program for area teachers that helps
defray the costs of enabling students to reach their dreams of
success.
The Hall of Fame is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10
a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. There is no admission charge, but
donations are welcome. Group tours are available by calling
330-386-5443.
