Geocache Description:

This is a mystery multi cache that will take you a short tour of “uptown” Greenwood. For more information about the events and happenings in uptown greenwood, visit www.uptowngreenwood.com. You may want to consult this site to determine muggle likelihood before attempting this cache.

At each of the five stages, you will need to gather information and solve for one or more of the numbers in the final coordinates. There are no physical caches at these stages, only information to calculate the coordinates for the final state. The final stage is a nano cache, you may want to bring a tweezers for easy retrieval and replacement of the log. If driving this cache, parking shouldn’t be an issue at any of the stages and all are wheelchair accessible so I’m rating this a 1 on terrain. I’m rating the difficulty as a 2 simply because of the work involved but it shouldn’t be difficult.

The listed coordinates take you to Stage 1.

To find the final coordinates, you must solve the following:
N34 AB.CDE by W 82 F.GHI

Stage 1:
N34 11.333 W82 9.636
At this location you will find a local uptown landmark.
(picture available in my 1/6/09 log for winter caching)

J = According to the dedication plaque, how many city council members were there including the mayor.
K = number of fancy lamp posts immediately surrounding this landmark
L = number of benches immediately surrounding this landmark
M = number of small “rings” inside this landmark

A = number of large “rings” inside this landmark
C = J – L
F = L + M

Stage 2:
N34 11.612 W82 9.678
(Updated April 4, 2012)
These coordinates should take to a place to rest your legs if you’ve been walking this little multi rather than trying to navigate it with a vehicle. To find out G, do the following: Count the number of corners on the object here. Now subtract 2.

Stage 3
N34 11.261 W82 9.750
These coordinates take you to a monument. Find the last digit of the year this monument was erected. This is D.

Stage 4:
N34 11.214 W82 9.613
(Updated 8/20/14)
These coordinates take you to the Greenwood County Library. It was built in 2010 and replaced the previous building located at Stage 2. There is a bench located here that was at the former library site. On the bench are two dates. Add together the last digit from both dates to find E.

B = D subtracted from E (E - D = B)

H = C subtracted from G (G - C = H)

I = D subtracted from K (K - D = I)

At the final coordinates, you should again find a place to rest your legs. While doing so, you should be able to inconspicuously grab the cache. Good luck and most of all, Have fun!

Congrats to Dr. B on the FTF!
