How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The cache is a glass jar with clip-down lid. For better water protection, I have wrapped it in a plastic bag. Besides the usual swap articles it has a First Find Trophy.

This cache is placed at a beautiful, but little known spot in the Rocky Creek district on the Atherton Tablelands.
The area is of historical interest, and has significant flora values so please treat it with respect.
I include an extract of a letter from the Tablelands Regional Council granting me permission to place this cache at the site.

"I advise Council approves your request to place a geocache at Barney Springs with the following conditions:
• You provide Council with the latitude and longitude co-ordinates of the geocache.
• Council reserves the right to remove the geocache if the Reserve is being misused.
• Vehicles must be left at Mapee Road."

In compliance with the above, please park at
S 17° 10.870’ E 145° 27.821’
Here you will find a gate. Please leave it as you find it. You are entering the Council Pound and animals may be present, or being managed.
There is a second gate at
S 17° 10.808’ E 145° 27.751’
This one looks as though it is usually left open, but again leave as you find it.
At S 17° 10.738’ E 145° 27.625’ You will need to pass through a wire gate. Again leave as found.
At Barney Springs please take the time to walk down the walking path. You will definitely be rewarded, with scenes of beauty and remnants of by-gone days. However, do not let children wander too far from the path as there are wash-a-ways of amazing depth very close. For the same reason I would not recommend this one for night ventures, unless you have a particular interest in nocturnal wildlife, and are very careful.
