Geocache Description:

The new latest renovation of the club resulted in the removal of the sax. It in now owned by Orange Show Center for Visionary Art and is in a warehouse awaiting a new place to be exhibited. The removal of the art means this is now a commemorative cache.

The cache was placed to highlight the artwork next to the building, a large sculpture of a saxophone partially constructed from car body parts belonging to old Volkswagen Beetles. The building originally housed “Billy Blues,” one outlet of a now defunct chain of theme restaurants that featured live music. The restaurants motto was “Bar-B-Que all day, cook all night.” The sculpture caused some controversy when it was installed. The City of Houston viewed it as an unlicensed sign and wanted the restaurant to comply with city sign codes, which the sculpture could not. The restaurant successfully claimed that it was art and not regulated by the city ordinances, allowing it to be kept in place. However you look at it, the art did make for a good advertisement for Billy Blues. The cache was moved from the original location near the artwork across the street and just to the west of the Sax. Congratulations to Dyfen on the first to find.
