Geocache Description:

Park on the upper road at Bankend Wood. Follow the footpath up the glen through the community woodland. The cache lies off the path. It can get very wet and the ground is very soft in places. You don't need to walk over the very wet area to get the cache.

The usual 'snap top' small sandwich box. The cache is in the area of the Holy well - Saint Anne's Well. She is said to have been the mother of Mary.

The Burn Anne or Burnawn is locally famous for its agates or semi-precious gemstones. An excellent Gemstone shop is at the Galston town crossroads.

The holy well has been capped, originally by the Duke of Portland to supply water to Cessnock Castle. No sign of any stonework survives; the well would have been shunned after the reformation - the Covenanters were not into holy wells and the like.

Children and dogs will be fine on the fenced off path, but the last leg will require you to look out for sheep and its too squelchy for kids at the well.

Sheep are in the area and a sturdy wooden fence cordons off the water supply / Holy Well area.

Please carefully replace the camouflage.

The signs of large scale digging are where enthusiasts have been after the agates.
