of flattery.
It is located somewhere in the Baton Rouge area, but not
at the above coordinates, which would put you right in the middle
of University Lake. If you were to look for the cache at this
location, you would be "all wet" on a variety of levels.
Below is a screen capture of an image from Google Earth dated
April 2002. I haven't rotated the picture - north is up. In the
southwest corner of the picture is a large building with a
bordering intersection visible at the northeast corner This
intersection is exactly 7.4466 miles from the coordinates given
above. Your first task is to find this intersecion.

Once you find the intersection, you will find a street sign and
utility pole on the northeast corner. Use these two items to answer
the questions below: (Note: The N-S sign refers to the street
sign that is running north-south, whereas E-W sign refers to the
street sign that is running east-west. The numbers on the utility
pole refer to the large silver letters and numbers on the pole
about 5 feet up arranged in "T" shape.)
A = ___ The number of unabbreviated words on the two street
signs.
B = ___ The 2nd number that appears on the N-S sign.
C = ___ The sum of all of the numbers on the N-S sign added
together.
D = ___ The number of letters in the name of the road that appears
on the N-S sign.
E = ___ The largest single number that appears on the utility
pole
F = ___ The 4th number that appears on the N-S sign.
G = ___ The 2nd and 4th horizontal numbers on the utility pole
added together.
H = ___ The sum of all of the numbers on the E-W
sign, minus 2.
I = ___ The number of street lights at this intersection.
J = ___ The 5th number that appears on the N-S sign.
K = ___ The 1st number that appears on the E-W sign.
L = ___ The number of times the number one appears on the N-S
sign.
M = ___ The first horizontal digit that appears on the utility
pole.
N = ___ The 2nd number that appears on the E-W sign.
The actual cache coordinates are N AB° CD.EFG' x W 0HI° JK.LMN
(Approximately 1.1696 miles away.)
Fill them in here: N ______° ______._________ x W 0______°
______._________
You can use this
link to check to see if your coordinates are
correct.
Please do not post any pictures, measurements or
descriptions that would give away the actual location of the cache
or the intersection!
Now go find the cache! A few words about it - you do not have to
go on private property to get to it. The cache is a 88 ounce Lock
and Lock container. As always be watchful for poison ivy, and
thorny plants. And as always, cache in, trash out!
Interpreting Aerial Photographs
Interpreting Aerial Photographs requires some skill, and people
take years to become truly proficient at it. Some things to look
for include roadways (look for number of lanes, width of road, and
turns in the road), buildings (pay attention to size, shape,
location), waterways, and other features. Your best bet is probably
to have a map in one hand and the aerial photo in the other and
switch back and forth between the two comparing
features.
Congratulations: to WoogieMan3 for the FTF, although an
honorable mention must also go out to Camposyka who has come away
with what has to be the granddaddy of all geocaching stories
(although he may never night-cache again.)

A few requests:
- Please place the cache back where you found it. Hints (wether
in the description of friend lifelines) only work if the cache is
in its original location.
- Every effort has been made for accurate coordinates, but as we
all know sometimes factors beyond the our control can throw things
off. If you find that the coordinates are off by an unreasonable
amount (the margin of error/accuracy for your GPSr), please post
your find coordinates in your log as a waypoint. If a trend emerges
I will gladly update the coordinates.
- Please do not post any spoilers in your log that will give away
either the location or the fun of the cache. If you really want to
post something in your log that might cross the line, please take
advantage of the ability to encrypt that portion of your log.
- If the log is full, or the cache needs attention please include
that information in your log.
- If you made a good faith search, and came up empty please post
a DNF log, or contact me - it is possible that the cache is
missing, and this is the only way that I can know.
- Have fun
- Please feel free to rate my cache using
GCVote (an add-on for Firefox) - Details
can be found via this
link.
