January 2, 1753 Jesse Pugh the elder, purchased a tract of land on both sides of Back Creek from Lord Fairfax. October 6, 1788 Job Pugh, son of Jesse Pugh SR. drafted a charter of Pugh Town. April 20, 1805 Job Pugh sold to Jesse Pugh JR., his brother, a section of land on Back Creek, on which Gainesboro now stands, excluding the 10 acres where the quaker cemetary still remains. 1820 and after, the deeds refer to Pugh Town as Gainesboro.
This roadside travel park is maintained by the Gainesboro Ruritan Club.
