It's a long drive, but if you do it in June or July, you will be treated to vast meadows of blooming wildflowers along the whole route.
The lookout is supposed to be staffed in the summer, but no-one was there when we visited, so we camped just below the tower. On the way up, you will pass two trailheads into the Black Canyon Wilderness.
Here are the directions: From Highway 26 east of Mitchell, turn south on FS 12 for 15 miles, turn left onto 1250 for 4 miles, turn left onto route 38 for 4.8 miles, then right*** onto 5810 for 2.3 miles and finally left onto 5840 for 2.2 miles to the lookout.
We tried to find the nearby East Wolf Lookout Tree Platform, and failed, maybe you can find it!!
