Geocache Description:

This cache is located at a unique North Shore intersection of ADVENTURE and FUN, namely the Baden-Powell and old Chairlift Trails. Hiking the Baden-Powell Trail is truly a wilderness experience within view of a spectacular cityscape below. This 48km trail, built and named for the founder of the Scouting movement, traverses the whole North Shore, from Deep Cove to Lions Bay. Marked with distinctive yellow triangles and bright orange reflecting tape, the trail is accessible from many places, and can be hiked in segments. In the 1920’s, North Shore skiers hiked from 29th and Lonsdale to the old Ford’s Store at the foot of Grouse Mountain. There they strapped on their skies and walked another 1 ½ hours to the slopes. In 1949 the Village Chair eliminated that last hike, delivering skiers to the Tyee Clubhouse at the bottom of the Cut. In 1965, a tramway ride to the lift made it even easier. The Village Chair, the first double-chair built in North America, was replaced in 1971 by a second tramway. [Harold Munro, Vancouver Sun, January 25, 1989.] What remains today is the historic Chairlift Trail to the old Tyee Clubhouse at the bottom of the Cut. This cache is placed by Lions Area Girl Guides, girls and women from Pemberton to Squamish, from the Sunshine Coast to Deep Cove, dedicated to FUN, ADVENTURE and SERVICE! Each cache is filled with Girl Guide related items. Please bring your own crests and pins, and trade fair. Easiest access to this cache is from the top of Skyline Dr. Park at the gate and hike up the road to the end of the asphalt and beyond. The cache is located along the BP Trail, about 80-m west of the Chairlift Trail and at the entrance to the heavily forested portion of the trail. Please re-hide carefully.
