Geocache Description:

Budshead Wood Local Nature Reserve extends for 12.5 hectares. It is a recognised ancient woodland which dates back to the Middle Ages, although the presence of Hornbeam (not native to South West England) in the woods indicates that it has been replanted in the past.

Its more important habitats include wetland, scrub, carr (wet woodland) and mature deciduous woodlands. The reserve is managed as high forest and, apart from tree thinning in the early and mid 1990s, the woodland is generally left to develop and regenerate itself naturally.

The co-ordinates above are for the start of this circular walk and the Cache co-ordinates are hidden in three places in the woods. (in contact lens see through cases)

The spoiler photos need to be seen for this walk.

To obtain the co-ordinates for the first location Waypoint Three, you will need to find the answers to the following six questions, which are all about Plymouth City Local Nature Reserves which I have placed caches in. Google will be very useful.

Q. ONE Andy Stevens worked as Nature Conservation Officer with the council for over AB years. Answer AB=

Q. TWO. Andy Stevens died in 200C Answer C=

Q. THREE. Southway Valley Local Nature Reserve extends DE hectares. Answer DE=

Q. FOUR Woodland Wood Local Nature Reserve extends for FG hectares. Answer FG=

Q. FIVE. “City of Plymouth. Plymouth's Local Nature Reserves were opened by David Attenborough. on HJ th August 1991” . (This information can be found from the details of my cache “Have you logged it ? TWO” ) Answer HJ=

Q. SIX. Southway Valley Local Nature Reserve. The mature woodlands at the bottom of the valley were thinned in 199K/L. Answer KL =

You now have all the information required for Waypoint THREE.

WAYPOINT THREE. N50°25.(A-D)(F-H)(L-G) W004° 10.(C-K)(J-B-4)(E-7)

CLICK ON THIS LINK TO CHECK YOUR ANSWERS TO THE PUZZLE FOR WAYPOINT THREE (visit link) GeoChecker.com

After parking your car at the suggested parking.
Waypoint ONE . N50°25.069 W004°09.759.
Be careful crossing this busy road to the entrance of Budshead Wood Local Nature Reserve.

You may find that your GPS readings are all over the place at times but if you stay on the paths it will correct itself as you go along.

The start of the walk is at waypoint TWO N50° 25.092 W004° 09.862.
Go into the wood just past the seat on the left is a wide path going up. Take this path and about 10 feet up you will see a lower path on your left THIS IS WAYPOINT TWO start of the walk.

Stay on this path, which will take you to Waypoint THREE. Steps near the first hide.

WAYPOINT THREE. N50°25.(A-D)(F-H)(L-G) W004° 10.(C-K)(J-B-4)(E-7)

These steps divide the path. Down to a wooden bridge and up to the right. From here go up the steps and turn right to a large tree, at the base of this tree under a stone are the first part of the final co-ordinates M & N . See spoiler photo ONE.

Carry on along this path to Waypoint four, where the path splits again N50 °25.019 W004°10.166 At this point take the path to the right and follow it until you come to a granite marker post on the right.

Behind it and under a stone are P & R for the final co-ordinates. (I AM SORRY THAT P AND R SEEM TO BE MISSING, HERE ARE THE NUMBERS YOU REQUIRE, P = 4 AND R = 0 )

Continue along this path to another granite post, just past it turn right and you will see the tree in spoiler photo TWO.

Behind the left hand trunk under a stone is S & T .

You now have all you need to work out the final co-ordinates for the cache.

Now stay on this path as in the spoiler photo TWO and follow the co-ordinates to the cache.

The cache co-ordinates are N50°25.RST W004°09.(N+1)(M-1)(P+2)

I found that in the last 100 feet it was better to walk slowly, then it will take you to the cache position.

The cache is a wide top plastic jar. It contains a logbook, pen, several swaps.

Please make sure that the cache is put right in the back of the hole out of sight in case the stone gets removed. Thank you.

Enjoy your walk.
