Geocache Description:

Quick and Easy cache, level ground, no hiking. This is a cache for an informational stop.

This cache has been placed on the property of the Fayette Fire Company, with permission. The history of the Fayette Fire Company goes something like this. In 1925, a group of men saw a need to form a fire department in McAlisterville, PA. The fire company’s first place of operation is unknown to me. The second building of operation was at the intersection of Water and School Streets, and was and still is a three-bay garage. In 1990, the Fayette Fire Company purchased a new fire engine, and attempted to park four pieces of apparatus inside the existing building. These pieces were two fire engines, one brush truck and one ambulance. To say the least, a great deal of care was needed to prevent accidents from occurring while parking the vehicles. In 1995, the Fayette Fire Company purchased the current property from Mr. Mertz of Sunbury, PA. The property was sold to the fire company for $125,000.00, and included three lots of land. The first being the lot where the main building sits; the second directly across PA Route 35 (currently a parking area); and the third lot is South of the second lot, directly across the alley (Church Street). The Juniata Valley Bank purchased the former fire company building for $50,000.00 and loaned the fire company the remaining $75,000.00. Currently, the Fayette Fire Company’s building houses one (1) fire engine, one (1) fire engine/tanker, one (1) utility truck (the only portable air unit in Juniata County), and one (1) brush truck. Also stationed in the building are two ambulances, which are owned and operated by the Fayette Township EMS, Inc., which was formed in 1997, when it divided from the fire company for liability reasons. Notice the background of the Shade Mountain as you gaze north of this cache. Depending on the season of the find, will depend on the sights that you might see, or the people you might encounter. Thank you for visiting Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and come back again! Congratulations to Rainbow Warriors for being the FTF. Notice the firefighter fountain in the rock garden, which was placed August 24, 2008. This might be a great place for a picture.
