Welcome to Gerpissvæði. This cache is the third out of three placed caches (Gullþúfa, Barðsnes and Karlsstaðir) during a walking trip southwards down to Eskifjörður together with a group of friends.
The hut Karlsstaðir is built by and run by Ferdafélag Fjordamanna in 2003. It is a "Hilton" in an otherwise almost abandoned area. There are some farms transferred to summer houses close to the sea but no one living there permanently any longer.
Nice walks to Vöðlavik passing Dýs or up the summits of Gerpir (661m) which is the most east mountain on Iceland or Skumhöttur (881m) can be done from here. Some of the oldest parts of Iceland with 12 miljon years old rocks can be found in the area.

You can go here all the way from Eskifjörður by car on the Viðfjarðarvegur, preferred is a 4x4.
The cache is a 35mm film container not intended for trading items. To protect it from hard weather conditions it is placed inside with the permission of the hut owner. There is permanent access to the inner of the building. The rating is based on going by car to the hut but would become a 2/4 if you walk.
