Welcome to Northerly Island! A bunch of travel bugs came here hoping to catch a flight out of Meigs Field. Unfortunately, they didn't realize the airport is long gone. Now they're hoping to catch rides with visiting geocachers instead.
This camouflaged ammo can is just a very short walk (.14 miles) from a free, public parking lot. It is also a nice walk from any of the museums. The majority of the terrain is flat and stroller and wheelchair accessible. However, a portion of this path is a dirt and grass trail, and the final few feet are very rocky terrain.
Please take care to not walk on any of the prairie areas. To reach this cache, you need only to walk on the grass and the small path. There is no need to walk on any flowers.
This island, just a short hop away from the Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum, and Adler Planetarium, used to be known as Meigs Field. Today it is a large green space containing a concert pavilion and an attempt at prairie restoration. The park has excellent paved bike paths, as well as a nice view of downtown.
The parking lots located here are free to people visiting the park. To get to the parking lot (coordinates posted below), you must drive past the Adler Planetarium parking lot. While one sign at the parking lot say that there is no parking after that point, the lots are in fact further down the road. Please follow the road all the way to the very end. When there are fireworks or concert events, there may not be parking available.
Please take extra care in replacing and rehiding this cache. Really make sure it is covered. We do not want anyone to be able to muggle the travel bugs inside. We ask that you only take travel bugs whose missions you will be able to assist. Also, please be considerate to those who will be hunting the cache after you, consider taking only one or two trackable items if you will not be leaving any behind.
The hint for the cache is a dead give away, so please be sure you want to know before decrypting.
