First Permanent Norwegian Settlement in the United States
This is my first cache hide. It is in the Cleng Peerson memorial
park. This park has a monument that commemorated the 100th
anniversary of the first permanent Norwegian settlement in the
United States by Cleng Peerson and other pioneers from Norway. They
and their descendants, who still live here have contributed largely
to the development of this section of Illinois. Near by you will
find the historic Norway Store. While you are in town looking for
the cache you can stop by the store to see many of the Norwegian
specialties that they carry. Ask about the Ludifisk, I have lived
here all my life and still haven’t gotten the nerve to try it. If
you are in town during a week end in the summer you can also visit
the local museum located behind the Norway store.
This is a micro cache you may need to use something as hook to
retrieve it.
