Geocache Description:

Te-lah-nay, a Yuchi girl, and her sister were removed from Northwest Alabama along the Trail of Tears to Indian Territory during the 1830's. However, the rivers in Oklahoma did not sing to her, and after a short time, she decided to return to the Singing River (the Tennessee River). Thus began a journey that lasted for two years as she walked back to Northwest Alabama.

Building a rock wall to pay tribute to an ancestor is a Yuchi custom. To that end, Te-lah-nay's great-great-grandson has constructed a rock wall in her honor as well as writing a book about her journey. The wall is a work in progress and presently contains approximately 6.5 million pounds of rock. The wall already is the largest unmortared rock wall in the nation, the largest memorial to a Native American woman, and perhaps the largest memorial to any woman in the nation. Most of the rocks are from Lauderdale County, Alabama, but there are rocks in the wall from every state in the union and from 127 countries, territories, and islands.

The cache is a camo bison tube attached with fishing line and is located near the intersection of the Natchez Trace Parkway and Lauderdale County Road 8. Parking is available along a dirt road beside the cache location. The cache is NOT IN THE ROCK WALL.

Visitors to the wall are welcome, and there is an entrance through the fence a few yards south of the cache. The dogs may bark at first, but they are quite friendly. This cache is placed with permission. As a courtesy to the landowner who lives on the property, hunting the cache at night is not recommended. Please treat the wall with respect.
