Along the scenic tree covered ridge en route to the Coliseum Mountain cap. Leave at least 2.5 hours to get this far. Park in new Coliseum Trail staging area. Give yourself 5 to 6 hours to get up and down again (550 m vertical gain). Pack a lunch and at least a liter of water per person. May need some bug spray...
Along the trail up our dog was spooked by something small in the trees - turned out to be a small toad that was not overly pleased to see us.
Cache is about 3/4 of the way up to the Coliseum Mountain cap in the front range of the Canadian Rockies, and overlooks the historic town site of Nordegg. Can see in the distance to the west Abraham Lake and peaks in both Banff and Jasper National parks. Trail is treed switch-back, across a scree slope and treed ridge. After the cache (Elev 1,950 m), continue west to the mountain cap and an even better view (Elev 1,984 m).
Cache is a small sandwich container on the south side of the trail - a good spot to stop for lunch after the hike up, especially after crossing the scree slope. Contains a "Nordegg" badge of honour for the FTF. Other goodies include 'the dog' playing cards, Canadian dolphin pin (as if we have any), Calgary Stampeders 2008 schedule, two rubber dice, a parachute man, four Canadian flag stickers (Canada Day Special) and a couple of rings.
