This cache is located in the Straits State Park. A Michigan State Park Motor Vehicle Permit is required for entry. The Park’s hours are from 8am to 10pm during the season the park is open.
This cache was placed for the Straits of Mackinac GeoBash on July 13th, 2008 and takes you to a Letterbox Cache (with its own stamper and notepad for Letterboxers to leave their mark and a separate logbook for Cachers) in the Straits State Park. THE POSTED COORDINATES ARE FOR THE ENTRANCE OF THE STRAITS STATE PARK. YOUR GPS IS AN INTEGRAL PART IN THE HUNT OF LOCATING THIS SPOT AND THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO READ AND FOLLOW THE STORY LISTED BELOW TO FIND THE ACTUAL CACHE CONTAINER. I RECOMMEND GRABBING A MAP OF THE PARK SO YOU CAN FOLLOW ALONG ON THE MAP AS YOU READ... There I was, turning into the park and wondering what to expect of my first GeoBash. I paid the permit price and excitedly told the man why I was here today. He handed me a campground map and circled where the parking area was. Pulling into my parking spot I noticed all the bumper stickers and window decals “I love GeoCaching” “GeoCache or Bust” “Without my GPS, I wouldn’t know where I was” I walked across to the marked picnic area nervously with my Straits of Mackinac GeoBash print-out in one hand and my GPS in the other hand. What was I to expect of people named Cyclops, Captainshark32, UPJoe, Team Kalsin, and Mobile Mariner? It sounds like a group of Super Heroes that I used to read about in comic books. I sat down at 9:55a.m. amongst this group and proceeded to slurp my coffee and nibble on my donut. A man labeled Cyclops introduced himself to me. He then introduced others by their caching name and their real name. I soon realized that these people that I once didn’t understand and sometimes criticized for “wasting” time were just in search of the next big adventure just like I was here doing. I enjoyed talking to and sharing stories with these fellow cachers, but soon it was time for the presentation. I anxiously sat through the very nicely done presentation and prize drawings, which I won a collection of items put together by Wife of Cyclops. After all this, it was time to put my learnings to the test as Cyclops had given us the O.K. to head out into the world of caching. It was a scene like the great hunters blowing their horns for the dogs to be released after the fox in a hunt. I rushed past the slide, only to be beaten by the nimble Team Kalsin. I had heard while sharing a donut with Captainshark32 that Team Kalsin is hard to beat when there is a FTF in the woods and I was now seeing that firsthand. The good thing for me is that there were many FTFs in the woods this day so when Team Kalsin headed one way, I headed towards the upper campground. On the right was the entrance to the Park, but I pushed ahead down towards campsites 118-142. Trudging on I reached campsite 134 and had to get a slurp of water as it was very hot running under that blazing sun. Mustering up more energy I rounded the turn and found myself at the playground. Looking around I saw no other cachers so I decided to take a break on one of the four swings. As I sat daydreaming about the swings my mom used to push me on for hours, I realized that I better come up with this find soon before others were to come. Remembering the clue I quickly left my swing, looked around to be sure no campers were aware of what I was up to as I noticed Captainshark32 left the attribute that you would need stealth for this find, and headed into the brush towards the clump of tall cedars straight out from me. There it was on the ground...I had done it!! I was now holding not only my first find as a cacher, but also was to go down in history as this cache’s FTF. I had heard rumors of a FTF dance and laughed at myself as I was currently doing one. This dance would have to wait as there were many more caches to find today so I took note of the letter on this cache to do the overall Master of the Parks cache, placed it back in its place, covered it with some brush, and headed…
