Geocache Description:

A historic Sunnyvale multicache

Stage 1: Iron Works (.pdf brochure) N 37° 22.606 W 122° 01.447

At the posted coordinates, you will find a monument with two plaques in front of an old building
A = number of words with the largest sized letters on the upper plaque
B = on bottom plaque, last digit of year that the company was purchased
C: Above the door of the building to the north of the coordinates is a sign (often covered in ivy) that reads "Established 1856". Add up the four digits in the year. C is the last digit of the sum. Yes, this question is that easy.

Stage 2: This stage is only accessible from 6am to 9pm. N 37° 22.887 W 122° 01.619

At the coordinates you will be standing in front of an object with a sign on your left and a sign on your right. These answers can be found on those two signs.
D = last digit of the sum of the four digits of the year that the Iron Man Museum purchased the object
E = x+0.5 where x is the number of ounces of gold recovered from 50 tons of ore-bearing rock
F = Last digit of the year "so recorded"

Checksum: Sum of A to F is twenty-nine

Extra Credit: Lamp Post N 37° 22.837 W 122° 01.577

An in-theme object familiar to all geocachers. I sure wish I could have hidden the final here.

Final: N 37° 22.ABC W 122° 01.DEF

It is not in theme and is nothing special, so enjoy the other stages, which are the main reasons for this cache. You can probably find the answers for the final coordinates on the web, but what's the point. It is not in the same park as Stage 2. It is NOT accessible from Central Expressway.

I haven't toured the museum at Stage 1 yet. If you have, let us all know about it in your log.

Other interesting trivia: This State Park, containing Gentle Giants, was once owned by the founder of the company.

Update 12/29/09: A fellow cacher who's a direct descendant of the founder provided some more information.
The museum at Stage 1 is open by appt. only - visit http://ironmanmuseum.com/ for info and to schedule. The museum covers the plant history from before the move to Sunnyvale up to the present day. The plant is still very much in use, and is now run by Northrop Grumman as their Marine Systems Division.

Congratulations to Gitonyerhorse for the FTF!!
