A second cache here in one of Reading's oldest parks. Arthur Newbury Park was once part of Kentwood Common. Hollows in the park show remains of chalk and clay pits, the area having been a thriving clay extraction and pottery industry. Arthur Newbury donated this land and other plots in Tilehurst to Reading in 1932.
Arthur Newbury Park is a natural open hilly space with conservation grassland now cut as summer meadow. The park is well hidden behind gardens and two allotment sites. Woodchipped path under beech and lime avenues open onto wide pathways, which are mown for walkers giving wonderful views across the River Thames to Mapledurham Woods.
Pedestrian entrances are found off Armour Hill, Kentwood Road and Oaktree Road. There is no car parking areas as such.
The park has footpaths (some steep), a children's play area (for the under 12s), seats, dog bins, many specimens of trees and plants and is well worth a visit.
Pedestrian entrances can be found off Armour Hill, Kentwood Road and Oaktree Road.
