2859 Liberty Lane Mystery Cache
sleepyrn: Needs some maintenance and it's not visited enough to justify it. I'm closing it down.
More
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This cache is located within the Liberty Watershed. You will be
walking about 0.7 miles (one way) from the most logical parking
area. The trail is dirt/tall grass/soft, leaf covered. And up hill
both ways! Hunting is allowed within the watershed so please be
aware of hunting seasons and schedules.
Prior to 1954 there was a small town along the banks of the North
Branch of the Patapsco River surrounding the former site of the
Melville Woolen Mills. Baltimore City purchased the land from the
owners of the mill, the Melville family, in 1954. At the time, it
was the largest land purchase in state history. The city took
control July 8, 1954. The entire mill town, including factories,
was left intact and flooded to create Liberty Reservoir.
Many families had to relocate to "higher ground". One such family
relocated to the outskirts of the watershed property and built
their home there. This family has been introduced to geocaching and
has grown to enjoy it so much that they have placed a cache within
their house. The cache is located just inside the door.
They hope to meet the visiting geocachers but they are away a lot
and so have left a spare key outside to open the door if they are
away. They welcome you to come in, wander around, and find the
cache. All they ask is, if they are not home, please relock the
door, return the key to it's hiding place and leave everything neat
and tidy. They love geocachers but they don't want muggles
wandering in.
The home owners also don't like gorillas. Please, brute force is
NOT necessary to get into the house. Everything you need is close
at hand. Just find the keys and you will have no problem.
