In former times rivers and brooks were used to float timber from the forests into the cities. Few brooks have enough water for this purpose, so dams (forming artificial reservoirs) had to be built. The timber was piled up in the river bed. When the waterstorages were drainded the timber was flushed downstream. The german word for such a dam-construction is „Klause“ (same origin as close).
In the area of Klausen-Leopoldsdorf remnants of a widespread system of these drains can be found. 13 minor and 1 major drain worked together, floating timber as far as Baden. The system was in use until 1939.
This cache is part of a series of caches, dealing with the subject (TAKL = TriftAnlageKlausenLeopoldsdorf). Don't forget to note down the information on the front page of the logbook, you will need it for the Bonus (which will be hidden later).
The Lengbach-Drain is in remarkably good condition as it is also used as a bridge for the houses on the other side of the brook.
The cache is hidden in the forest on the other side of the road. A forest road (at the end of the meadow) offers the easiest approach.
In contrary to most other drains this one used a different kind of closing-mechanism (similar to a stopper instead of a gate). There are plans to repair the drain so it will be a part of the flood protection system.
When I hid the cache in 2008 the walls on the upper side were overgrown with grass, below the dam there were many bushes. 2013 the upper side looks different, no more grass, several trees have been felled. The undergrowth below the dam has also been removed. The place looks less lost now.

The cache is a small lock-lock-box, containing log-sheets and a few small tradingitems. Large enough for Geocoins and normal-sized Travelbugs.
