Geocache Description:

Ammo box located on the Isle of Windsor. Sea going vessel required.

In the early 1900's a group emigrated from England, with the Blake family establishing a farm on what is now called Windsor Island Road. This cache is on the island.

I couldn't find out any information about how the island got its name, I'm assuming the English immigrants were honoring the folk back home, but I could be wrong. Update: There was also a local family on the Polk county side of the river by the name of Windsor (Frank B.) in the 1940's. Hmmmmm. That's OK. The Duke of Earl wasn't about the Earl of Windsor anyway.

We got here by taking a small motor boat down from the Wheatland Ferry, but you could also approach by canoe or kayak from Wallace Marine- as the river flows North (one of the few rivers that does). Waded through tall grass and some stinging nettles to place the cache, nothing serious. Didn't spot any poison oak in the approach I took, but might as well wash up afterwards to be safe.
