Geocache Description:

Welcome to beautiful Kivik in the heart of Österlen

Kivik is a fishing village with medieval roots. It is the second largest village in the municipality of Simrishamn, but still only holds a little more than 1000 inhabitants during the Winter. When the summer arrives that number increases significantly.

Between Kivik and Simrishamn Scania's largest fruit district is located. Hundreds of thousands of fruit trees are planted along the slopes of the hills in the landscape. Kivik is the fruit capital and every Autumn in the end of September since 1988 the Apple Market (Link in Swedish only) is held here.

Kivik is also famous for the annual market (Link in Swedish only), usually taking place on the third Monday through Wednesday of July every year.

While approaching the cache you will be watched by most of the village, including me if I happen to be in Kivik, so behave! Don't forget to visit Buhres Fisk (Link in Swedish only) in the harbour after logging to get something to eat. Their pickled herring is probably the best in the world!
