13 QUBED Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

-allenite-: As there's been no response from the cache owner to my previous note, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that geocaches archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

13 stage multi for our 13th Hide.

PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION!!

I got the idea for this cache after Friday the 13th last month (June 2008). Many people I know were talking about how bad that day was going to be. They were afraid of the number 13 or they were superstitious. A popular movie director even released a suspense movie on that day... So scary!

Well, not me! 1,3, & 7 are my favorite numbers.
My birthday is 3-31-77.
My room number my freshman year at college was 303.
My locker in high school was 113.
My first name starts with "M" - the 13th letter of the alphabet.
The first stages were placed on the 7th day of the 7th month of this year, it has 13 stages and is my 13th hide.

I even got engaged on Friday the 13th of June, 11 years ago - This year makes 10 years happily married... See, 13 isn't such a bad number after all.

--DETAILS--

This multi is designed to take you on a 5.26 MILE biking trip on the bike paths of West Olive. It is a loop north of Holland. The rating of 3.5/3.5 is simply because of the long distance on a bike, some walking at the final, and the cammo on some of the containers.

Although I don't recommend it, you can do it by car if you can find parking along the way (The road is twisty with hills and dips - it can be dangerous if you try to park along the shoulder: Be careful. And the local muggles are VERY nosy...). Doing this multi by car will significantly shorten the time and the effort it takes to complete.

***(... So if you're all about bragging rights, get on that seat and peddle!)***

--BACK STORY--

When I was a kid, I lived about 2 miles from where this multi starts. My dad and I would ride our bikes down to the shore and take this loop, then ride home. I loved it - Some of my best memories. Sometimes we would go down to the beach at Kouw Park, sometimes we would ride up to the bridge at Pigeon River, sometimes we would stop at the gas station and get a snack or drink (Dad's treat). I hope you can build some memories as well.

--ADDITIONAL WAYPOINTS--

Recommended parking is at Van Buren Dunes Open Space (Open year round from 5am to 10pm). Coords are included - If you have time you may want to go grab the caches in this great park, and the one nearby at Kouw Park.

--ADDITIONAL INFO--

Ottawa county parks rules can be found at this website: http://www.co.ottawa.mi.us/ParksVI/Parks/rules.htm

All stages except 12 & the final are 2 inch long by 5/16 inch wide STAINLESS STEEL tags attached to either retaining walls, bridges, or trees (except stage 8 - it's attached to a steel pipe) along the path. If you are anywhere near man-made wooden objects, check there first! If not, check the trees somewhere between waist high and chest high. they are all hidden so you can't see them from the path, so lean over (if it's wood) or walk around (if it's a tree)...

All stages are located on the side of the bike path AWAY FROM the road.

None of the stages take you more than 7 steps from the path or road (except the final). In fact, stages 1,2,3,4,7,9, & 10 can be grabbed with one foot on the path (or darn close).

The final is a HUGE ammo can in a "nest" under a pine tree. . Please make sure you hide it as well as you found it - or better. The GZ location gets a lot of traffic - especially in the fall when the hunters are out.

I stuffed the final full of fun stuff for adults and kids. I included a bug and coin that I picked up in other caches for miles. FTF is your choice of anything in the ziploc bag with the logbook.

Please take what you like, leave what you can: I'd hate to see this turn into a great big EMPTY ammo can

Now get on that bike, get some exercise, enjoy the scenery, and have fun caching while you're at it.
Enjoy!

***Spooky notes***
Ok - if you are superstitious, here is some spooky stuff for you to think about:
I finished placing the last stage on the 13th day after I started working on it... and didn't realize it till I counted back... chills.
While I was working on this cache some creepy things happened:
My wife's car broke down, our camper got infested with ants, I got poison ivy (again), My car broke down, I had to do owner maintenance or adjust the coords on 5 of my other hides, we went to a Catholic wedding this weekend & were seated at the end of a pew & right next to me on the wall was stage #13 of the cross, and lastly- when I turned on my phone last night I had 13 emails.... That's a lot of coincidences in 2 weeks time, don't you think?...
