In 1881 Cathmagby Missionary Baptist Church was established, resulting from the urging of two sisters, one whose first name was Catharine and the other whose last name was Magby. They had been walking, one from Dozier Road ridge and the other from Jackson Road, meeting at a shady place at eh present day intersection of Jackson Road and Mitchell Creek Road. Upon meeting, they would rest a while, and then continue through the dense woods, crossing the creek and walking up the road to Rehobeth. The site of their meeting place became the location of Cathmagby Missionary Baptist Church, a “sister church” to Rehobeth. A number of years later as congregations grew, Love and Peace Missionary Church was built about two miles south of Cathamagby near where Old Ware Road intersects Peace Church Road. These churches are still very active in the life of the community.
In circa 1891 the Cathmagby Missionary Baptist Church became the location of a County school providing black high school age students with classrooms. In addition to the church, on two acres across Mitchell Creek Road from Cathmagby a school was provided for younger children. If you have your back to the cache you will see the area this lower school once resided.
Cache was place with permission of land owner. However please be respectful.
