This cache was placed during a day-long hike along the range. From the campground, entering through the "V-gap" waypoint, South along or behind the ridges, then down from Hayward Bluff to the "Spur" waypoint, back onto the valley floor and onto the road back to the campground. This loop is approx. 15km and 8.5 hours in length, including rest and lunch stops. Alternatively just return through the "V-gap", but note it took us ~3 hours (a 500m ascent) to get to Mount Hayward from the campground but this included rest stops & lunch to enjoy the views. This is hard hiking for experienced walkers with steep inclines, please ensure you are well equipped with plenty of water and it is best enjoyed during the cooler April - October months. See References below. At the Mount Hayward cairn, carefully check out the two small aluminum canisters tucked into it, these contain many notes from other bushwalkers who over many years have also passed this way. The cache is a small round camo' screw-top with the stash-note, logbook, pencil and a few simple swaps.
