This cache is placed near the AMC Cold River Camp. It is here to introduce the people of this wonderful camp to geocaching.
This cache is located near a dam across the Cold River. Parking is available on the east side of Route 113 opposite the Baldface Loop Trail in a lot bearing a sign “Baldface Loop Parking”. A trail that roughly follows the stream immediately to the north of the lot (on it’s south bank) will take cachers to the cache site. The trail is marked with yellow rectangular blazes and “Deer Hills” signs. This trail can be found by walking 100 feet north up Route 113 from the lot, just before the stream, or be exiting the lot from the middle of its northern edge on a small connecting path. It should take 15 minutes or so to walk from the parking lot to the dam. The cache is located within 50’ of the trail, so deep excursions off trail are not required.
Cold River Camp guests will have no trouble whatsoever navigating to the cache site, and can ignore the above directions. Just head for the dam!
The coordinates I have supplied look pretty good on Google Maps, but feedback would be appreciated! The hint is a dead giveaway, so decrypt it at your own risk.
The cache itself is a camouflaged ammunition box containing the usual sorts of goodies. Over time I hope the guests of Cold River Camp will bring items (and bugs!) from home to swap with similar items from other guests.
I would recommend cachers try two other caches in the area, Blueberry Dogs and Emerald Cache. Both these spots are well known to the occupants of Cold River Camp. They are within walking distance, and are in the normal week’s hike rotation.
