Just off the paved road on the Batona Trail
Well I was out caching and hiking and this one goes to show how easy it is to get disoriented. I came out onto a paved road, not sure exactly where I was and needing to get back to the car. So I walked up a bit, thinking I'd come out on a side road somewhere, but not sure exactly where or what road. I had the GPS telling me I had about 2 miles to the car and I was in Byrne, so I wasn't all that nervous. . . yet. I saw the BT markers and thought OH OK -- but where on the BT was I? But I had cache stuff with me so I meandered down about 150 ft and placed one behind a tree. The coords should be pretty close, but the unit was acting funny. It's about 150 feet down the trail behind a tree that doesn't look burnt.
Oh, where was I, after all -- how embarrassing. I was on the road that runs past Pakim Pond towards the camp grounds. Had I stopped and thought, I'd have figured that out. Just goes to show how disorienting things can get -- imagine if there wasn't a GPS to direct me? I'd have walked another couple of miles out of the way before I figured it out.
