Geocache Description:


St. Joseph was a boomtown that for a short time became the largest community in florida. It was destroyed 8 years later. It was founded in 1835 on the shores of Saint Joseph Bay. By 1837 it had approximately 6,000 inhabitants. In 1841 a ship brought "yellow fever" to the town. This killed many of the people and cause the rest to leave. A hurricane in 1843 hit with a large storm surge_destroying the abandoned town.
