I remember, as a young boy, attending a most wonderful event in
the woodlands of West Monroe. This was the Boy Scout Camp. Boys
from all over came and camped in pup tents, all in a row, like our
Fathers did during WWII.
We learned life saving skills, woodland lore and of the animals
of our forest. We learned how to trap or snare these animals if we
became lost and needed to feed ourselves.
We played baseball, swung on a long rope tree swing, and learned
how to build a rope bridge that we walked on. I believe there is a
cable plank bridge still there.
This is a public park now open daily, for a small fee. It has
lots for kids to do. Come see it. Remember-show children how to do
something and they will have the confidence so they can help
themselves to not be afraid.
The Boy Scout Motto- Be Prepared. Watch out for the decoy!!
