Deze cache is hier gelegd om een rustig gebied in de provincie Groningen onder de aandacht te brengen.
De enige reden waarom deze cache niet als geschikt voor rolstoelen staat aangegeven is dat de af te leggen afstand meer dan een kilometer is. Overigens kan dit ook met de auto gedaan worden.
De locatie ligt buiten de doorgaande routes, maar er zijn enkele interessante bezienswaardigheden, zoals het gemaal Katerhals, de molen De Meervogel en het natuurgebied Hoeksmeer. De weg langs het natuurgebied loopt dood tegen het Eemskanaal. Op een plattegrond is te zien dat de weg aan de andere kant van het kanaal gewoon doorloopt. De brug over het kanaal is in de Tweede Wereldoorlog vernietigd. Het natuurgebied is niet toegankelijk, maar vanaf de weg eromheen kunnen vogels goed gespot worden. Dit is een van de nog overgebleven gebieden waar je stilte nog kunt horen. De molen is gewoonlijk iedere zaterdag tussen 2 en 4 uur open voor bezoekers. |
This cache is meant to attract the attention for a quiet location in the province of Groningen.
The only reason why this cache is not marked as "wheel chair accessible" is that the total distance is more than one kilometer. It is possible, however, to do it by car.
There is no through traffic, but there are a few interesting objects, like the pumping station Katerhals, the mill De Meervogel and the nature reserve Hoeksmeer. The road along the nature reserve leads to a dead end against the Eems canal. On a map it can be seen that the road continues at the other side of the canal. The bridge across the canal has been destroyed during the Second World War. The nature reserve is not accessible, but the birds can be spot from the roads. This is one of the remaining areas where the silence can still be heard. Usually the mill is open for visitors each Saturday between 2 and 4 o'clock. |
