This is one of a series of four caches placed along an old trackway that at one time was one of 2 roads over the Black Mountain to Brynaman. At one time it shared the same status on maps as the A4069 (favoured by Top Gear to film dramatic shots of cars driving along mountain roads). Three caches (including this one) are regular hides and the fourth is a bonus – collect the clues on the lids of the regulars to get the coordinates for the bonus.
This cache should be relatively easy to find – its located right next to the trackway. It's not far from what is listed on maps as a ford, but the river is so small at this stage, I’d describe it as a few dozen stones over a wet bit to be honest!
The view down the valley from the cache location is beautiful.
Eclectic Penguin placed these caches to encourage people to make the scenic walk along the now forgotten highway to enjoy its stunning scenery along the way - but if this is the only cache you try in the series - enjoy!
EP thought the best approach is from a small car park located at 51°51.466'N, 3°52.675'W where the trackway starts as it branches off an existing narrow road. Being the traditionalist, I always think of this area approaching from the south (3,2,1) with the reveal of the views that open out from 2->1 making the climb all the more exciting; and then down to the little car park to look flat at Castell Carreg Cennen...
If you're planning on completing the series, don't forget to copy the numbers from the box's lid for the bonus cache (and backup on the Logbook).
