Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

Streaks. They're special precisely because it's difficult and unlikely to keep doing something. Think of the all-time great streaks: DiMaggio. Ripken. The Cubs. alirose114. TRAKD. These champs had to conquer hounding by the media, nagging aches and pains, jam-packed schedules, even RATTLESNAKES! But to find a cache every day for five years ... WOW! That's dedication! And it deserves a tribute cache. You'd have to go back five years to locate a day when this geocacher did not have a find. We'll call this cacher "our honoree" throughout this description.

A few months back, I was in San Francisco when I found my 2nd mystery cache (my 20th geocache find overall). As of now, it's still my only find hidden by our honoree. (I'd sure like to change that.) The numbers from that cache's waypoint ID are the key to this puzzle.

The cache is located at N38° 3N.NNN W121° 4W.WWW.

N.NNN: Strike out all letters from that cache's waypoint ID and you're left with a two-digit number. Call this "X". (You'll also need it for the west coordinate.) Cube that number and multiply the result by 5.478. Call this "Y". (You'll be subtracting it from a bigger number in a couple of steps.) Next, translating letters into numbers by taking the letters' position in the alphabet (A=1, B=2, ..., Z=26), get a value for our honoree by MULTIPLYING together the letters in this cacher's geocaching name. From this product, subtract "Y" (not 25; that big number Y from a couple of steps ago). Now take the square root. You should be very close to a four-digit whole number--just round to that nearby whole number. Throw in a decimal point between the first and second digits (from left), and you have N.NNN!

W.WWW: Much simpler. Take "X" from before and multiply it by 0.0505. Your result is W.WWW!

You can obtain a good parking waypoint at 0.000504 degrees north and 0.000193 degrees east of the solution.

To our honoree: Here's to continuing your impressive streak!

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

Congratulations to LewisClan77 on the FTF!

Additional Hints (Decrypt)

[will add hints or a geochecker once there have been a few finds EDIT 7/5/2010: yeah, I suppose 27 finds counts as a few, so here's the hint: PUZZLE-"very close" is roughly 0.000523--check your math if you don't match that; LOCATION-first part of GC22842]
