Grand Army of the Republic Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Reviewer Revan: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so I am regretfully archiving this cache to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace this cache sometime in the future (not to exceed 10 days from the date of this entry), just contact me (by e-mail), and assuming it still meets the current Guidelines, I will consider unarchiving this cache.

Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the Reviewer Revan.

Geocache Description:

Fairview cemetery is a beautiful resting place for many of this area's citizens. In 1906, the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic,) Department of Texas, Post #5, placed a monument in Fairview Cemetery near the graves of six Union soldiers that were veterans of the Civil War. The G.A.R. was a fraternal, patriotic organization of veterans who served in the Union forces. It began in 1866 and ended in 1956 when the last member passed away. G.A.R. posts were in every state in the U.S. You can read more about the G.A.R. in Wikipedia on the internet.

FTF receives a G.A.R uniform button from approximately 1875. (G.A.R. members wore a uniform to their meetings and functions.) The rest of the cache is filled with the log and a few items to trade. Bring your family to show them a part of Denison's history.

Cemetery is open at dawn and closes at dusk.

Since this is my first hide, I welcome corrections to the coordinates or any other suggestions.

Happy caching...Wild Flower 60

Congratulations to TomsTom and his daughters for the FTF!!!
