With the right weather you see a wonderful panorama.
I discovered this spot a while back when trying to get close to the Slievenaslat Viewpoint cache, and although only ½ a mile away, there was no way to the cache. What there is here, is a car park and picnic area on one side of the road and a viewing area with information board on the other. The viewing area provides a lovely panorama of the surrounding countryside, “Slieve Croob Country”.
Heading out of Castlewellan towards Clough and Downpatrick, take the Drumbuck Road (first on the left down the big hill) then take the Bannanstown Road (which is first on the left again) to your destination. From this direction you will reach the car park about 30M before the cache site.
The cache is accessible from the roadside so please listen out for traffic. Please supervise children very carefully. It is camouflaged and a glove may be handy.
I have marked this cache as wheel chair accessible as I think it is, if I am mistaken sorry for the inconvenience and please let me know so I can edit the listing. The path to the view point is a slight decline and of crushed rock which may be managable.
Take care on the narrow roads. Don’t make this a cache and crash.
