Geocache Description:

A multi cache which forms a tour of the village of Brockenhurst, taking in some of its interesting features.

The whole walk is about 2 miles and is not suitable for wheelchairs. There are some steps, the odd stile and possibly some mud, but intrepid buggies may be able to manage.

Recommended parking is in the main village car park, N 50 49.200 W 001 34.650, for which there will be a charge. As may be expected, all the usual amenities are available, including a variety of establishments to satisfy the hungry and thirsty cacher.

Although there are different views on the origins of the name Brockenhurst, the translation “Badger’s Wood” is the most attractive, and is reflected in village emblems and nicknames. So let’s take a tour round Badger’s place!

First Location: N50 49.148 W001 34.623

Not quite what you think it is- how many spokes? AB

Second Location: N50 49.1(A+B)2 W001 34.5B3

There was an interesting item here- you can probably see where it was sawn off. Instead take the last two digits of the year CD

Third Location: N50 48.(B+C+(D/3)91 W001 34.(B+C)90

Here is commemoration of an enlargement which was completed in 191E.

Cross the road and take the path directly opposite. When you get to the next major road, take care; you need to cross a little lower down, to the left.

Fourth Location: N50 48.(D)16 W001 34.0(CxE+E)7

Here is the grave of one of the best known of the local characters, “Brusher” Mills. But what age was J Blackham when he died? FG

Walk up the hill to the church, which is well worth a visit if you have time. It has claims to be the oldest church in the New Forest and was the centre of the village in the early days, though it's hard to believe now. Take the track to the east of the church.

Fifth Location: N50 49.0GG W001 34.13(E+F)

The gateway to Brockenhurst Park, home to generations of the Morant family, highly influential hereabouts. How many people are depicted? H

Take care crossing the road and take the path opposite, which for many years was preserved as a private access for the “Lords of the Manor”.

Sixth Location: N50 49.HH4 W001 34.30(ExH)

One small and J large windows facing the road point to the former use of this building.

Now you are ready to find the cache, located at N50 49.(J+H)H(G-F) W001 34.(G-A)H(H+C). You are looking for a tupperware container. Please replace it carefully as you found it.
