Perfectville Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

rutro: Well, Perfectville had a long and triumphant run just like those gritty Dolphins from 1972. Unfortunately GZ has been having issues and the integrity of the site has definitely been compromised. Let's hope the 2012 NFL season isn't equally compromised and we actually have a season next year.

Thanks to all those cachers that found this nifty little cache and a special thanks to all those Dol-phans for their ongoing support to the team!

Geocache Description:

per·fect (pûr´fïkt) adj. Being entirely without fault or defect : flawless. -Webster's Dictionary

This cache is a tribute to the 1972 Miami Dolphins and their perfect 17-0 season. It is a unique feat that has stood the test of time. Every year that passes makes the remarkable record seem less and less likely to be matched, although last year's run by the New England Patriots sure made it fun to watch.

The 1972 season was legendary coach Don Shula's third with the Dolphins. Under his strict no-nonsense approach, the young Dolphins team gelled into a cohesive unit. Though the team featured players, like Nick Buoniconti, Larry Csonka, Larry Little, Bob Griese, Jim Langer and Paul Warfield - all Hall of Famers - it was often contributions from the lesser-knowns that made the difference. In fact, the team featured a defense that, although very good, lacked "star-power." Capitalizing on their anonymity, they accepted the nickname the "No-Name Defense."

The Dolphins entered Super Bowl VII as a three-point favorite against the Washington Redskins, despite the fact that the Dolphins had not lost a game all year. Miami soon had the Redskins down, 14-0, and seemed to be on their way to a dominant victory. Then, in one of the strangest plays in Super Bowl history, Garo Yepremian's field goal attempt was blocked. Instead of just covering the ball, he tried to pick it up and throw it. The ball slipped out of his hand and was batted into the arms of Redskins cornerback Mike Bass, who ran the ball back 49 yards, cutting the lead in half. Fortunately for Yepremian, the Dolphins were able to hold on to win the game, 14-7, and finish off their undefeated season with a Super Bowl championship.

Many would argue that the 1972 Dolphins are the best sports team ever; proponents would certainly point to the unblemished record to back that up statistically. As Csonka once said, "Perfection ends a lot of arguments." There may come a time when another team goes undefeated and wins the Super Bowl -- when that happens, I know their fans will take as much pride in that accomplishment as Dolphins fans take in the 1972 season.

Cache is a micro-cache located next to a restaurant of the cache theme so BYOP. Area is full of muggles so stealth is required at all times. Enjoy the hunt and the YouTube video below which was the inspiration of the name of this cache. It was too funny not to share.

Happy Hunting!

Congratulations to Flydad on FTF!
