It's easy to imagine the wagons of yesteryear rolling along here. Some good size oak trees on the SE side. Of course, while they are beautiful, they also play havoc with the GPS signal! Continuing our lesson in tree identification, you're looking for a multi-stemmed, small, sycamore on the NW side of the lane. Don't know if there are any parrots about, or why they are associated with ill health!
You can start your Boogie around Bell Hill at many points. Parking can be found to the north on the Crook road, where the Fell Gate footpath joins - a small layby, or the end of Capplerigg Lane. Or, there are several places along Rather Heath Lane. There is nowhere to park along Capplerigg Lane itself. Just to the west is the Sun Inn at Crook if you are in need of refreshment after your boogie.
Other starting points could be: to the south by the church at Underbarrow, see 'BHB - New from Old'; or even SE on the Underbarrow Road as it crosses Scout Scar - head north then come down Gamblesmire Lane to 'BHB - Cold Bonfires'. There are lots of route possibilities on good footpaths or bridleways in the area. The circuit of Bell Hill is popular with mountain bikers and makes a fine ride.
