Quinebaug River Canoe Trail Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dosido: Well, since the rest of this caching trail has been flooded, or wiped out by the tornado, there's no reason to replace this one until things get cleaned up. Thanks to those that came out to find the series!

Geocache Description:

The Quinebaug River Canoe Trail

This is the first of a series of four geocaches placed along the Quinebaug River Canoe Trail, which runs from Lake Siog (Holland Pond) in Holland to East Brimfield Lake in Brimfield.

This is, by all accounts, a flat water paddle, as the river meanders it's way through beautiful, serene areas ripe for watching and listening to the wildlife.

The paddle itself is just shy of 5 miles one way. It took our crew of 4 in our inflatable canoe almost exactly 3 hours to paddle the trail, place four caches, and have a leisurely lunch. This trail is for all levels of skill, as the take in/out are very easy, and there are no portages nor rapids to tackle.

The QRCT has 3 rest areas along the trail - each has a fire pit and benches, and each has a place to pull up your canoe or kayak up and take a break from paddling.

The Cache

This first cache is a small plastic container located at the parking area for the put in at Holland Pond. The parking area is often busy, with canoes & kayaks on the river or people using the small beach just west of the lot.

Log in, drop the kayaks into the water, and get going!
