Welcome to the Pine Mountain Gold Mine. Just north of Villa Rica ("City of Gold" in Spanish), this area was one of the biggest gold mining areas in the 1800s.
Please read the website that is on this page. There is a ton of info about this mine complex.
The trails are open 24/7, but I would encourage searching only daylight hours. There are some larger openings in the ground. Check out the picture I included. The museum is open Monday-Saturday from 10-4. There is a movie they show at this museum, with a requested donation of $5 for adults and $4 for kids. They also have gold panning on site, from 11-3:30. If you live in West Georgia, this is a site where you can do alot of the same things that you can do in Dalonega, but you won't have to go as far. Also, inside the museum, you can get a trail map just to tell you what all the different features on site are.
These coordinates will take you to the middle of what looks like a "49'rs Freeway." From this location take a bearing of due north. Cache should be about 25 feet.
The note just above is no longer completely true. It may still get you to the cache, but the coordinates are now at the cache. (I hope.)
