Geocache Description:

"As long as you are still picking them up and putting them down...
Breathing in and breathing out...
Everything will work out." William S. Partridge

This was a first for me. I took off from the Glen Alps parking area and did as I always do when making a ridge ascent; I checked my watch as I took my first step, just to see what my time en route was. This trip turned out to be a bit of a treat as I was intending to head for Peak #2. What I didn't start out to do was make a non-stop push from the parking lot, but that is the way the day played out. Not one stop from beginning to end and at an hour straight up I stopped and hid the cache, on the top of Peak #2. This was all walking, no running and all strictly on the marked trail. There are three defined trails off the East side of Flattop that all converge into one trail which winds up the ridge of Peak #2.

The view is a good one and the weather today was beautiful after an entire day of rain, the sun broke and made for a very pleasant way to unwind after work.

This is my 100th cache hide so I thought I would do something different. When you log this cache you must post your time from the parking area to the cache, this will create a metric using 1 hour as a benchmark. Please include which route you came, either via Glen Alps or Canyon Road. As a bonus, post some photos of your climb into the clouds.

There are two parking areas for making a Flattop approach; Glen Alps, which has been recently paved and has a parking fee associated with it and the Canyon Road parking area, which is small and the trail is steeper and not as defined up the South face of Flattop.

My time:
Parking lot to turn off Blueberry Hill trail: 15 minutes
Parking lot to Bench: 20 minutes
Parking lot to the Saddle: 31 minutes
Parking lot to Flattop Bell: 43 minutes
Parking lot to Peak #2 Summit: 60 minutes

This is not a race, please take your time. Your time does not have to beat the one hour benchmark, it is simply a reference. Flattop is still a mountain with all the danger of any elevation and can turn of you if you are not prepared. It is a nice hike and after the traffic of people generally on Flattop, Peak #2 can be a welcome side trip. You will be amazed at how fast you can attain the second peak once you are at elevation. Be safe and enjoy being on top of a mountain.

How fast can you get here? There is an unactivated coin for the FTF prize.

This cache was placed under Chugach State Park permit #05-099
