Este es un cache pequeño localizado en los alrededores de una de las dos Basílicas de Puerto Rico, la Basílica Menor Nuestra Sra. de la Monserrate en Hormigueros. La otra es la Basílica Catedral Metropolitana de San Juan Bautista en San Juan. El cache es un recipiente amarillo de pastillas. No olvides traer bolígrafo/lápiz para firmar la hoja de visitas. Desde la colina tendrás una vista excepcional del pueblo y de los alrededores. Por favor sea muy cuidadoso pues muchos muggles visitan la Basílica.
La Basílica Menor de Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate está localizada en el centro del pueblo de Hormigueros. La iglesia fue construída en 1590 para celebrar la leyenda de la intervención de Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate para salvar la vida del campesino Giraldo González, quien mientras trabajaba en el campo fue embestido por un toro enfurecido. El hombre invocó a la Virgen para que le salvara la vida cuando súbitamente el toro tropezó y el campesino se salvó. Desde ese momento, la gente del pueblo se conoce como grandes devotos de la Virgen María.
El papa Juan Pablo II la elevó a Basílica menor el 19 de mayo de 1998. La frase "Salus Infirmorum" que está en el altar quiere decir salud de los enfermos y esto se debe a que la gente peregrinaba al Santuario en busca de salud. La Talla de la Virgen es de madera y fue hecha entre 1740 y 1770. Esta talla se viste desde el principio según la tradición española y conserva los colores originales.
Los fieles en agradecimiento traían objetos de oro, plata y cera que prendían en el manto de la Virgen. Con el tiempo fueron tantos que se fundieron para hacer ornamentos del retablo: altar sagrario, lámparas del Santísimo y el marco del cuadro de la Virgen, que fue hecho por el platero Napolitano Vicente Furiati en 1863.

The Basílica Menor Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate is located in the center of the Hormigueros town. The church was built in 1590 to celebrate the legend of the intervention of Nuestra Señora de la Monserrate to save the life of a peasant Giraldo González. While working in the fields, the peasant was charged by an enraged bull. The peasant called on the saint to save his life – just then the bull tripped, and the peasant was saved. Since then, the townspeople are known both locally and internationally for their devotion to the Virgin Mary.
The pope Johannes Paulus II gave the name of Basílica Menor in May 19, 1998. The phrase "Salus Infirmorum" in the altar means health of the ills, due to the people peregrination to the Sanctuary in search for health. The wood figure of the Virgin was done between 1740 and 1770. It is dressed as a Spanish tradition. It conserves the original colors.
The faithfuls in gratitude brought gold, silver and wax objects to attach in the mantle of the Virgin. With time they were so many that were fused to make ornaments of the altar: altar shrine, lamps of the Santísimo and the frame of the picture of the Virgin, who was made by the Napolitan silversmith Vicente Furiati in 1863.

How to get there: From Ponce: On PR-2 you must to take exit #162 after the Toyota dealer and the cemetery and then road #103 you will see almost immediately the Basílica at your left. From Mayaguez: On PR-2 you must to take exit #162 by the Esso gas station and then road #103 you will see almost immediately the Basílica at your left.
