Short Hike up a hiking trail, approximately 1/2 mile from the parking area.
On November 6, 1945, W. A. Ellis, who was a descendant of early settlers of the Walnut Grove area, deeded forty acres in Leake County to the State of Mississippi to be used for a park. The donation was made in memory of the patrons, pupils, teachers and friends of the old Golden School and their descendants. The Golden school house stood on a black-jack hill on the northern edge of Scott County, Ms. It was so named in honor of Dr. William Golden the grandfather of Mr. Ellis.
Beside serving as home to an abundant supply of wildlife, one of the largest loblolly pines in the state is in Golden Park. It is a small park in terms of size and its recreational facilities are limited but the sheer beauty of the park and its special atmosphere make this a worthwhile stop.
There is a fee of $3.00 for the park. VERY nice place, great for cookouts. Rent the paddle boat, Fish, and or Hike.
This is a Traditional Cache, inside a Camo Painted Lock/Lock Large Plastic Container.
