The cache is NOT located at these co-ordinates, which give the location of an historic landmark used as a guide by Maori travellers as well as early European settlers. It is also a hint to the location of the cache – it is to be found within 5 metres of a lesser example of the landmark. To find the cache, you will need to take a short journey (about 15 minutes by bike) through 5 streets within 3 kilometres of the published co-ordinates, collecting house numbers en route. The following passage contains clues to the names of the streets.
You will need a road levy to go this way (J = lowest even street number) until it sounds like you should tease the backward English boy to the end (K = highest odd street number, L = lowest odd house number). Go left for a bit – why go round here? Next veer around towards the muddled set (M = lowest odd house number, N = lowest even house number). Lastly, head into the arcane palace (P = lowest even house number).
Check: 165= the sum of the numbers J to P
A = P
B = M + N + P
C= M + N
D = K – (2 x J)
E = M
F = N
G = N – (L + M)
H = L
